Understanding the Hidden Causes of Thyroid Dysfunction and How True Healing Begins Above the Cell™
The Problem With Traditional Thyroid Care:
Conventional doctors typically measure only TSH and, if you’re lucky, T4. But thyroid health is far more complex. Most traditional providers do not check for:
- Thyroid antibodies (TPO, TG) → essential for diagnosing autoimmune disease
- Free T3 → the active thyroid hormone
- Reverse T3 → signals inflammation & cell-level stress
- Conversion markers → liver & gut-based hormone activation
- Cellular inflammation & toxicity → which block hormone receptors
And even when hypothyroidism is diagnosed, the treatment usually stops at prescribing synthetic T4 medication—assuming the body will convert it into usable T3.
This is where traditional endocrinology fails patients.
You can have enough thyroid hormone and still experience all the symptoms of hypothyroidism if:
1. You Cannot Convert T4 → T3
This conversion happens primarily in the liver and gut. If either system is inflamed, toxic, or nutrient-deficient, conversion stops. This is why so many people continue to feel terrible despite “normal labs.”
2. Your Thyroid Receptors Are Blocked
This is the root cause of Hashimoto’s that almost no one talks about. Inflammation, toxins, heavy metals, mold exposure, endocrine disruptors, and chronic stress can block T3 receptors so the hormone cannot enter the cell.
This is identical to type 2 diabetes, where there is enough insulin, but insulin resistance prevents it from working. Hashimoto’s often involves thyroid resistance — not just low thyroid hormone.
Hashimoto’s is not just a “thyroid problem.” It is an autoimmune, inflammatory, epigenetic condition heavily influenced by:
- Chronic inflammation
- Gut dysfunction
- Liver toxicity
- Mold and environmental toxins
- Hormonal shifts (especially menopause)
- Nutrient depletion
- Cellular stress and methylation imbalance
Many patients experience:
- Metabolic Symptoms
- Weight gain
- Inability to lose weight
- Slowed metabolism
- Cold intolerance
- Beautification Symptoms
- Hair thinning or shedding
- Eyebrow thinning
- Dry, aging, crepey skin
- Brittle nails
- Energy & Mood Symptoms
- Fatigue
- Brain fog
- Anxiety or low mood
- Sleep disturbances
- Systemic Symptoms
- Constipation
- Decreased libido
- Muscle aches
- PMS or menopausal worsening
Traditional medicine may treat these symptoms as unrelated.
Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune condition, just like type 2 diabetes is a metabolic one.
In type 2 diabetes: There is insulin, but the cells won’t allow it inside.
In Hashimoto’s: There is thyroid hormone, but the cells won’t allow it inside.
Both conditions share:
- Receptor resistance
- Inflammation
- Hormone dysfunction
- Cellular toxicity
- Metabolic imbalance
At Mirelle, we treat the cell, not just the hormone level.
We research and address the true root causes by working at the epigenetic, metabolic, and cellular level:
✔ 1. Detoxing the CellRemoving toxins, mold, metals, endocrine disruptors that block T3 access.✔ 2. Healing the GutBecause 20% of thyroid conversion occurs here.✔ 3. Supporting the LiverWhere 80% of thyroid conversion takes place.✔ 4. Balancing HormonesEspecially during perimenopause and menopause, when estrogen and progesterone decline—placing huge stress on the adrenals, which in turn suppress thyroid function.✔ 5. Replenishing Key NutrientsSelenium, zinc, iron, iodine (carefully), B-complex, vitamin D, omega-3s—each plays a role.✔ 6. Reducing InflammationTargeting insulin resistance, methylation defects, and chronic immune activation.✔ 7. Optimizing T3 AvailabilityWhen needed, using combination therapy or natural desiccated thyroid based on symptoms, labs, and cellular needs.
